A Mount Vernon meat market that was closed twice in recent weeks reopened for business Wednesday.
The owner of OK Freddy's Meat Market on South Fourth Avenue said his business was shut down in recent weeks for minor violations, including lack of carbon monoxide detectors and fire extinguishers.
OK Freddy's reopened last Friday, after the owner claimed Mayor Richard Thomas illegally shut down the shop. The case went to court and a judge ordered locks on the shop's doors removed so that repairs could be carried out.
OK Freddy's was shut down by the mayor for a second time last weekend. Thomas claims the store represented a clear and present danger to the city.
On Tuesday, a state Supreme Court judge ordered the city to cut the locks and work with the store to resolve some legitimate violations. Thomas still claimed victory, saying that the court validated and vindicated his stance, while maintaining that the business is illegal and should not be open.
The owner of OK Freddy's says he'll do whatever he needs to get the city off his back.
