A small plane made an emergency landing on the waters of a lake in Orange County Saturday morning, officials say.
Warwick police told News 12 that the aircraft encountered engine trouble shortly after taking off from Warwick Airport.
The two men in the plane initially decided to turn around and land at the airport, but they decided on an emergency detour to Wickham Lake.
"They felt the better option and the safer option was going to be to land in the water,” says Lt. John Radar.
The two men managed to get out of the plane and swam ashore without any injuries.
Police say the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will be assisting state police with the investigation.
The Warwick Airport was temporarily shut down as crews pulled the plane out of the water.
