Orange County officials are considering a multimillion-dollar expansion for a popular bike trail.
The scenic Heritage Trail currently runs about 11 miles from Monroe to Goshen. After the expansion, it will continue west to Middletown, doubling in length.
County leaders say that booming businesses along the trail prove that its expansion is a good investment. They are pushing for the federal government to cover most of the $12 million cost.
A legislative committee is reviewing the plan. If approved, officials say the project could begin within the next year.
