Local officials are looking to cash in on the reputation of the Sing Sing Correctional Facility in Ossining by building a historic museum.
Local and prison officials joined state Sen. David Carlucci at the prison on Tuesday as he announced that a $100,000 state grant will go toward a feasibility study to start the project.
The feasibility study could take five to six months to complete
The plan is to turn an old power plant that is currently being used as a maintenance garage into a tourist-friendly attraction.
Most of the artifacts for the museum will come from the prison's original 1825 cell block.
If the plan is approved, the new museum will be less than 100 yards from the actual Sing Sing prison, along the banks of the Hudson River.
There is no word yet on when the museum will open.
