Officials: 1 dead, 1 hurt in Mount Vernon shootings
Officials say one person was killed and another person was injured in separate shootings Sunday in Mount Vernon. The first shooting occurred around 6 p.m. in the area of Third Street and Second Avenue.

Officials say one person was killed and another person was injured in separate shootings Sunday in Mount Vernon.
The first shooting occurred around 6 p.m. in the area of Third Street and Second Avenue. The victim was identified as 42-year-old Charles Smith.
About an hour later, officials say one person was shot in the leg outside the Levister Towers. That person's injuries were not considered life-threatening.
No arrests have been made. There is no word on whether the shootings are related.
