An off-duty NYPD detective was arrested Friday after allegedly striking and killing an elderly woman with his vehicle on Kingsbridge Avenue.
Police say they responded to a 911 call at around 6:30 a.m. about a pedestrian struck at West 232nd Street and Kingsbridge Avenue.
Neighbors say the victim, identified as 62-year-old Drane Mikac, had been collecting cans at the time of the accident. She was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Detective Kevin Spellman, 42, was charged with vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and DWI.
