A nasty crash on the New York State Thruway Wednesday afternoon sent four adults and five children to the hospital. Witnesses say a truck barreled through the tolls without slowing down, crushing an SUV. The crash happened just after 1 p.m. at the toll plaza on the Yonkers/Ardsley border, right near Stew Leonard?s and The Home Depot. The accident left both trucks barely recognizable. Chief Joseph Cipollone of the Ardsley Fire Department, was one of the first to respond. He says the condition of the backseat of the SUV was so mangled he was shocked to find the children coherent. Officials say the driver of the truck was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where he is listed in serious condition. Investigators say they don?t know if faulty brakes or a possible medical emergency caused the accident.
