The NYPD will be stepping up efforts this week to catch cell phone chatting drivers and serve them with expensive tickets.
The NYPD says starting Thursday, it will be putting more cops on the streets 24 hours a day in all boroughs to catch drivers on cell phones. Those caught using phones could be issued fines up to $120. Some drivers believe this will be a steadfast deterrent.
"It's very dangerous," says driver Jack Silva. "I've been seeing a lot of accidents because people aren't being careful enough."
The NYPD handed out more than 195,000 tickets for chatty drivers in 2008.
