The NYPD says shots were fired near the Stroud Playground which prompted a shelter in place at P.S 316.

The shooting occurred around 1:30 p.m.

Officers placed at least four orange evidence markers at the scene.

This is not the first time violence has erupted in the area in recent months. In September, two people were shot near the same playground — one critically — just one day before the start of the school year.

Residents say the proximity to the school is alarming.

“My kids go to school here, and one of them was outside. It’s certainly concerning,” said Kelly Allan, a Crown Heights mother. “It’s not the first shooting near this playground in recent years, but this is the first one during the school day.”

At this time, police have not released any information about possible suspects. The investigation remains ongoing.
