NYPD officer from White Plains in critical condition after being shot

A 24-year-old New York City police officer from White Plains is fighting for his life after being shot Saturday by another officer in what officials say appears to be a case of mistaken identity.
Investigators say Eric Hernandez was off-duty and waiting in line at a White Castle in the Bronx when he was assaulted by a group of men. The altercation spilled out into the parking lot and Hernandez had his gun drawn. Responding officers arrived and shot Hernandez three times.
Hernandez was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx where he has just undergone his third surgery in the past 24 hours. Hospital officials confirm he is still in extremely critical condition. The police commissioner says the incident is under investigation.
