NYPD deputy chief tapped as Yonkers police commissioner

After a summer of gun violence and police brutality complaints, the city of Yonkers is getting a new police commissioner.
Ed Hartnett, 51, currently a deputy chief with the NYPD, will take over the post in November. Hartnett will replace Commissioner Robert Taggart, who announced his retirement in September. Hartnett, a Rockland County resident, says he looks forward to working with those who share his vision for tackling crime in the state's fourth largest city.
Taggart?s decision to retire followed a summer violence and heated community meetings about police brutality complaints. Hartnett says he looks forward to meeting with community leaders.
