It comes a day after more than two dozen riders were injured in a mass subway shooting in Sunset Park. Figures from the NYPD’s crime data show a near 70% jump in transit crime compared to last year.

According to CompStat, there were 617 reported transit incidents between April 4 through April 10. That's compared to 367 during the same week last year.
Earl Phillips from Transit Workers Union 100 represents the 46,000 workers who move New York. He says that for years members have been dealing with assaults on the job. He also says Tuesday’s shooting highlights the vulnerability of the city’s transit system.
“For decades now, we have been dealing with syringes, stabbings, people spitting on us - and here it is today again. Vulnerable system is causing this to happen,” said Phillips.
