According to NYPD data, crime has decreased citywide, but numbers are up in the Bronx.
On September, Council member Oswald Feliz sent a letter to interim NYPD Commissioner Tom Donlon requesting more police officers in three precincts where crime is up exponentially.
Part of the letter stated:
"I am writing to urgently request additional police officers for the Bronx's 46th, 48th, and 52nd police precincts. While the NYPD has made progress over the past year in reducing crime, communities in the Bronx have been left behind."
Council member Feliz told News 12 the NYPD followed through. He says they deployed 20 to 30 officers at those precincts in the last 12 months. He says there is more work to be done.
"We've been in talks about getting additional officers given the great need," said Council member Feliz.
Per NYPD data, year to date, in the 46th Precinct crime is up 10.3%, the 48th Precinct is up 10.3% and the 52nd Precinct is up 13.1%.
