Police have arrested three men in connection to a hit-and-run in front of Yankee stadium that killed a 69-year-old Bronx woman Thursday morning.
Those three men are now facing a long list of charges, including criminal possession of stolen property. So far, only one suspect, 24-year-old Carlos Hernandez, is facing the higher charge of reckless endangerment, police say.
All three of the suspects in custody are in their 20s.
Authorities say Hernandez was the one behind the wheel of the BMW that crashed into Cathy Garcia as she drove her SUV near the corner of River Avenue and East 161st Street around 5:15 a.m.
Edwin Amparo, 29, and Atahualda Rodriguez, 28, were riding in the car with Hernandez at the time of the crash. They’ve both been charged with criminal possession of stolen property and possession of burglar tools.
Police say all three men ran away on foot, leaving the woman trapped in her car. The three suspects turned themselves in later in the day.
Data from the city shows that for the first half of this year, there were 33 crashes in which someone was seriously hurt and a driver left the scene without calling police. Of those 33, only three cases have been marked as solved.
