Two men are dead after police said they were stabbed in Soundview early Sunday morning.
The NYPD told News 12 that the victims were brothers, and the incident happened just before 5 a.m. along Stratford Avenue near Westchester Avenue.
Authorities say officers found 27-year-old Leider Guevara Cubas with a stab wound to the chest and 24-year-old Ernesto Hector Guevera with a stab wound to the abdomen.
Luis Mercado said he knew the brothers.
“The were good people, good person, good guys,” Mercado said.
Police said that the siblings were taken to local hospitals where they were pronounced dead.
“They are from Peru,” Mercado said. “They used to be my friends and they were at a party.”
Mercado said the brothers were attending a woman’s birthday party nearby.
Police sources told News 12 that the stabbing may be the result of a verbal dispute.
Neighbor Carmen Vasquez said she’s on edge.
“Just walking right here, you’re able to see the blood and that is just scary,” Vasquez said. “I didn’t even let my kids get nearby.”
Vasquez said she’s scared but not surprised.
“It does happen in this neighborhood,” Vasquez said. “It is scary to live here.”
Police said no arrests have been made as of Sunday night.
