The search is on for what caused a major fire in Nyack. It has displaced at least a dozen families.
It happened shortly after 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Nyack Plaza apartments.
"I'm just worried about our neighbors, most of them lost everything. Everybody around here is like one big family so when something like this happens, we all band together," says Tyler Hammond who lives in the apartments.
Emergency crews from many surrounding agencies came to help.
Investigators are still trying to figure out what sparked the fire.
Organizations, like the Red Cross and the Nyack Center, are helping the residents during this difficult time.
On Tuesday evening, meals were given out to families impacted by the fire.
"I'm sure there will be more things people need, clothing and such," says Kim Cross, the executive director of the Nyack Center.
Officials say no residents were seriously hurt.
One firefighter was taken to the hospital.
At last check, there were still some pets that were unaccounted for.
Officials with the Red Cross will be available again Wednesday morning.
