A New York state trooper near the end of his shift got literally caught up in the tornado that hit central Westchester Wednesday.
Sergeant Ira Promisel was in his unmarked cruiser on a break in Route 9A in Mount Pleasant when he says he saw the sky go dark and felt a sudden change in pressure. The tornado flipped the cruiser into the air, turned it upside down and flipped it again.
Promisel only suffered minor injuries. He credits his seatbelt for saving his life. The trooper also says several good Samaritans came to his aid. He was treated at Westchester Medical Center and later released.
