Undocumented immigrants can apply to receive up to $15,600 in funding in New York if they suffered losses due to COVID-19, but details on how to apply remain unclear.
The measure was passed last week by the Democratic-controlled state Legislature.
Catholic Charities case worker Marie Dely says she's happy the state is giving financial relief to undocumented immigrants, who make up the bulk of families she serves in the Village of Haverstraw.
"This is great news, and we wish it could be more, but we will take anything," she says.
There was still no word as of Thursday from the Department of Labor on how to apply as the state waits for the state attorney general to conduct a review. Gov. Andrew Cuomo has said that the program will not be implemented until the attorney general signs off on it.

The excluded workers fund will provide $2.1 billion in financial aid to people who were ineligible for unemployment and federal stimulus during the pandemic, which includes undocumented immigrants.
Applicants will need to provide proof of residency, proof of income with 2018-2020 tax returns and proof of lost income due to COVID-19.
Those who can provide the proper documents will receive $15,600. Those who can't provide the documents can still receive $3,200.
