NY, NJ and Connecticut team up on security for holidays
Law enforcement agencies in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut are working together to boost security on New York's public transportation network during the holidays.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed an executive order Tuesday giving law enforcement from New Jersey and Connecticut jurisdiction on New York's buses, trains, ferries and transit stations.
In a joint statement, governors of all three states said the precautionary move was designed to increase vigilance during the busy holiday season.
Cuomo noted that hundreds of thousands of commuters routinely travel between the three states. He said the increased manpower and cooperation will better protect and reassure the public. He said the move will allow the other states' security and counter-terrorism officials to assist New York in ensuring public safety at places traditionally targeted by terrorists, including mass transit.
Commuters at the White Plains Metro-North station tell News 12 say various agencies working together is a good thing. "Anyone who can potentially help, be it New York, New Jersey,Connecticut, Mexico, Canada, whomever, God bless us!" says Todd White, of White Plains.
The executive order will expire in 30 days.
