A nuclear power expert is warning about the dangers of putting a gas pipeline near the Indian Point nuclear power plant in Buchanan.
Paul Blanch, a nuclear engineer who has been a consultant to New York State and has worked at Indian Point, is expressing safety concerns over having a gas line so close to the nuclear power plant.
Blanch says he worries about the massive release of gas that could happen if there was ever a pipeline explosion. "The devastation could be incredible," says Blanch.
Spectra Energy, which has gotten the approval to build a new 42-inch diameter gas pipeline, maintains the project is safe and would provide additional energy for the region.
