Couple awarded $15,000 on Ellen for nonprofit scholarship program in honor of late son

A Norwalk couple was awarded $15,000 on Ellen for creating a nonprofit scholarship program in honor of their late son.
In 2016, Tremain Gilmore and his wife Fritzsa lost their 4-year-old son Elijah died to a sudden illness.
Gilmore, who works at Norwalk High School as a security officer, decided to continue giving to keep their son's memory alive, while helping students continue their education.
Each year, the couple holds a walk to raise money for the scholarship - EJ's Heart .
Between his work at the Carver Center - serving children in the community and protecting Norwalk High School, Gilmore got the call from Ellen when show producers told him to be in L.A. by Wednesday.
And when they got on set, sitting down with Twitch and Tiffany Haddish who were filling in for Ellen, they got the surprise of a lifetime
The couple was presented with a $15,000 check.
They say the money will go toward a scholarship to a student, based on grades and their community involvement.
