A North Rockland football coach who has been battling cancer is set to return to his team.
Coach Tom Lynch has been said to be the heart and soul of North Rockland football for many years. The program and its players suffered a major blow last summer when Lynch was diagnosed with cancer.
The cancer affected Lynch's left knee and one of his kidneys - both were surgically removed.
While on a leave of absence and undergoing heavy treatments of chemotherapy, Lynch still found the strength to attend almost every Red Raider game.
Lynch’s battle with cancer isn't over, but he was cleared to coach again this season.
His first game back on the sidelines will be Aug. 31 in Wappingers Falls, visiting Ketcham.
