With some high school sports getting the green light to start up, the North Rockland boys and girls bowling teams are seeking to defend their championship title.
The girls have won 16 consecutive titles.
Although they're unable to celebrate due to no post-season,
they’re still grateful.
“I appreciate every minute of this. I love bowling and I'm just
grateful for it,” says senior Nancy Kohut.
Victoria Varano, a junior at North Rockland, says she has hope.
“It gives me hope for the season. I know it's not going to be the same as what
it's been but it's better than nothing,” says Varano.
There were several moments within the last few months that
appeared to halt the season, leaving the Red Raiders uncertain.
“It was just like confusing…one week we’re like, 'Oh we're going
to start next week.' Then they were like we’re getting pushed back three
months,” says Varano.
The players aren’t allowed to celebrate too close to one another
or high five due to social distancing protocols.
Head coach Joan Nelson shared feelings of uncertainty saying in
part, “Every day I think it may not happen because I do feel at any moment the
plug could be pulled.”
But as of now, the season is ongoing.
