A nonprofit group called Purple Heart Homes has come to the aid of a Korean War veteran in Yorktown.
Stephen O'Loughlin says everyday tasks, like walking up a few steps to his bedroom or walking out the front door to his patio, were nearly impossible.
Purple Heart Homes installed new rails on his front steps and a ramp in the back.
The group also built him an electronic chair lift, free of charge.
Eugene Parrotta, of Purple Heart Homes, says while there are many programs out there that assist homeless and disabled veterans, his group is one of the few whose sole mission is to help veterans live more comfortable lives in their own homes.
Parrotta says now that the group has helped O'Loughlin, he is looking for other veterans who are in need of a helping hand.
