Peekskill police say a string of violent events revolving around drugs led to the fatal stabbing of a man and the shooting of a teenager.
According to police, 26-year-old Jeremiah Diehl used a gun to force his way into an apartment on Paulding Street around 11:30 p.m. Monday. Police say during a confrontation Diehl shot a teenager in the leg. Investigators say a struggle ensued where 26-year-old Norman Smith stabbed Diehl with a kitchen knife. Diehl left the scene but police tracked him down at his apartment where he died of his stab wounds.
During the investigation, police say they found crack cocaine on Smith and he was charged with drug possession. Smith is not charged yet in the stabbing, which police say may be a case of self-defense. The teenager is recovering from his wounds at the hospital.
