And from Ben, we go to Blaze Gomez. She's in another part of Orange County to see how things are going there. Blaze, what are you seeing on your end? We're just starting to see the first snowfall here in Cornwall as this weather system moves through Orange County. Crews are out, schools are adjusting schedules, and drivers are urged to use caution. The total snowfall is expected to vary across the region, but even a coating can make untreated roads slippery. Crews are pre-treating here in Cornwall. Monitoring conditions as temperatures hover near freezing. Several districts have announced delays or closures, and we're tracking any changes throughout the day. I'll keep checking with officials throughout the day on the road conditions. That's not where our crews are. Our focus now turns to Orange County, where flakes are falling. Ben Ny is showing us the conditions along a busy roadway in Middletown, Ben. I'm here along Route 17M in Middletown, and it is snowing pretty heavily now, and at this rate, it appears parking rules for the snow are going to go into effect. That means once 2 inches accumulates, you have to get your car off the streets to make way for plows and emergency vehicles. So you want to sign up for emergency alerts through your local municipality's website so you know when those rules go into effect. That's also one of the sources we use to bring you this information about the snow. Middletown's DPW commissioner Jacobil says his team is experienced and is prepared for this just the way they would be for a giant blizzard. Road salt supply hasn't been a problem like it has been for some communities in years past. They also have all the necessary equipment and staff to clear these narrow city streets, and it can be a challenge if you know Middletown and some of the streets. It's a very old city and it can be tough to clean up. They don't foresee any problems right now as long as people move their cars when they are asked to. I'm now headed west toward Port Jervis for our next report. I'm told that there have been some visibility issues on I-84 in Pennsylvania just west of Port Jervis. And it's starting to become an issue here in Middletown, visibility. In Middletown, Orange County, Ben Nandy, News 12.

We're starting to see the shower activity really come down across portions of the Hudson Valley like right outside the Middletown area from Rachel's point of view. Thank you so much for sharing this photo of me showing you that snow starting to adhere towards that driveway right outside your home, and we do see that snow coming down across portions of Orange County as well as across much of the region with us seeing a little bit of some rain showers falling down, mixed in as temperatures are slightly milder down across southern portions of Westchester County. And our team 12 coverage does continue in Tarrytown, where sleet and rain are really coming down. News 12's Lisa LaRocca is with Thunderbolt 12 with what you need to know about this nasty weather, Lisa. Yeah, at least, actually we're in Aussining now. We decided to kind of take a ride and just test out the roads and thunderbolts, not bad, but it's just nasty out here. Take a look along Route 9. I'll tell you what, I'd rather have snow than this. It's again that sleety, icy kind of rain just, oh, it's miserable and it's cold too, so you know it just like I've been saying all morning, it's just that kind of cold you feel right. In your bones and you can see some ponding on the side of the roads here as well. So you know it gets any colder that will start to ice up and that's where you get dangerous. So that's again why I say I prefer snow to drive in as opposed to this because you know you're driving here, you see it's wet, it's kind of ponding running down, but then you never know when there's a spot that you hit that's icy, it's black ice and you can't. See it coming and boy once you hit that and start to skid, it's almost impossible to get out of it. So it's scary stuff. So please just be extra careful if you're driving around Westchester again, just a sleety, icy kind of a mess. If you can stay home and stay snuggly on your couch, watch some holiday movies, I would strongly suggest this. Who wants to be out here in this kind of mess. We're in Ossining, Westchester County. Our team 12 coverage now continues in Rockland County. Diane Caruso is keeping an eye on the conditions there. Diane, how's it out there? We're seeing the wintry weather mix here in West Nyack where for the most of the morning there's been a good amount of rain with ice mixed in at times. The roads are wet and there is a slight dusting of snow on the ground that you'll see as you're out and about this morning. If you're out and about this morning. The Rockland County government says they're high. The Department was out treating the roads yesterday ahead of today's weather, but here at News 12 we're here to keep you safe, and we just want to share that message that if you're out, take your time and be a little more prepared if you're driving at all. That's the latest. We'll be out on the roads keeping an eye on the skies as well in West Nyack, Diane Cruso News 12.

Well, we know that Rockland and Orange County are getting snow today. So joining us now is Clarkstown town supervisor George Homan to talk about how his community is getting ready for this first winter storm of the season. Thanks for being with us. Well, good morning, Lisa. Happy to be with you. And, uh, you know, obviously, uh, yesterday, we um, had the highway department uh prep our um uh equipment. I'm actually at the highway department now. We're, we're actually getting a delivery of about 1000. Uh, tons of salt, 1000 yards of salt rather that it's being delivered, uh, you know, just to replenish some of our supplies. All of our trucks are loaded. We brine the roads and literally the trucks, the workers start at 7, so our trucks are rolling out, loaded with salt and ready to go for when the snow starts. Talk if you can a little bit about the financial impact that these storms have on your community. So, you know, uh, whenever a storm like this happens, you know, depending on the, uh, you know, the length of it, obviously, there could be some overtime and, and certainly the cost of, of salt. Uh, you know, um, the, you know, this is about $40,000 worth of salt that we've just, uh, uh, purchased, uh, that's, you know, been dropped off and, and literally it will, it'll probably cover, uh, you know, uh, one to maybe two storms. So, um, again, it could be quite costly if you get a lot of snow. This is uh very early in the season. Um, you know, we've budgeted for it. So obviously, it's not a budget impact as of yet, uh, on our, uh, budget, but, uh, you know, obviously it's, uh, a good amount of, uh, a good amount of money that, uh, um, you know, we spend on, uh, overtime, you know, uh, with these storms. I mean, because, uh, you know, when you start, you can't stop. I mean, uh, we have breaks that are, that are contractually built in. Uh, you know, it can cost us hundreds of thousands, some, some years, millions of dollars, you know, on, uh, on just, you know, dealing with, uh, with snow with some of these storms. So hopefully this isn't a bad one and we are well prepped and just encourage folks when it does start to snow, uh, you know, try and try and stay off the roads as best as possible. But right now we're well prepared. OK, good advice there before we let you go, we do need to ask you about that water main break on West Nyack Road. Do you have any updates on the status of those repairs this morning for us? Sure. So, uh, so, um, the, um, uh, you know, that, uh, uh, Violia has, uh, addressed that. I believe that they've essentially, uh, that, that work has been completed and they're just wrapping it up. Uh, the road is enclosed, uh, so, uh, it's possible people can get by, you know, you know, thankfully, uh, we revitalized that downtown area and uh we're substantially complete. We're not actually doing the topcoat on the road until Uh, you know, the spring. So thankfully, um, you know, that, uh, that won't be a permanent impact. Um, you know, we'll have the road patched and ready to go, uh, later this morning. That is good news. You don't want to have a water main break and snow to deal with.
