It's the busiest time of year for the U.S. Postal Service, and News 12 is getting a behind-the-scenes look at the magic it takes to get your packages to loved ones in time for the holidays.
News 12's Nadia Galindo went inside the Westchester Mail Processing Center in White Plains to provide a look at the high-tech facility that keeps the mail moving.
One can find more than 1,200 U.S. Postal workers at the Westchester Distribution Center in the Town of Harrison.
The distribution center services 180 post offices in Westchester and part of Fairfield County, Connecticut.
"By the time it's all said and done, for the month of December, we will be processing about 108 million letters total," says plant manager Frantz Lauture.
The center has received new packing and sorting equipment to ensure a package makes it to its destination intact or if it needs to be delivered early.
The deadline to ship first class is Dec. 17. The deadline to ship priority is Dec. 19. The deadline for priority mail express is Dec. 23 for those who are late shipping their packages.
