Questions still remain about the mysterious death of a mother of eight found in a Mount Vernon jail cell.

On Thursday, News 12 cameras were allowed inside cell No. 29, where Raynette Turner, of Mount Vernon, died on Monday.

Turner, 42, was in the cell awaiting arraignment after police say she stole from two stores on Saturday.

An autopsy conducted by a medical examiner found her cause of death to be inconclusive. It could take weeks before toxicology reports pinpoint an exact cause.

Her husband has said she had a history of health problems, and says she was taken to the hospital, treated and released while in police custody.

Police are stressing that Turner likely died of medical reasons out of their control.

The deputy police commissioner is insisting the department followed all appropriate procedures and that they did not cause Turner's death. "A thorough investigation is going to be done. It going to be done and it's going to be transparent. The woman was here on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday which means there is a lot of hours of videotapes we need to go through to make sure this job was done properly," says Mount Vernon Deputy Police Commissioner Richard Burke.

The county medical examiner has released Turner's body to her family. They are in the process of finalizing her funeral arrangements.
