The Newburgh Police Department has purchased a command post van from the Peekskill Police Department.
Chief Dan Cameron says the van will let them take the police station itself directly to the people. According to Cameron, the Newburgh Police Department will also send the truck to help with community policing and crime prevention.
Peeksill Police Officer Andre Wright says the vehicle proved invaluable during its nine years of service in Westchester. The vehicle became available for Newburgh to buy when Peekskill acquired a replacement.
The purchase of the van comes on the heels of the shooting death of a 20-year-old in Newburgh. Officials say that 20-year-old Christian Vaquero died Thursday morning after being shot last Saturday.
