An Orange County police department involved in a controversial deadly shooting two years ago is considering equipping its officers with body cameras. 

City of Newburgh Police Chief Michael Ferrara says body cameras are seriously being considered for all officers to wear on calls. Ferrara says it is part of effort to protect the actions of officers and to improve community relations.

Body cameras have been requested by the community since Michael Lembhard was killed during an incident with Newburgh city police two years ago.

President Barack Obama says he also supports body cameras for officers, and has proposed millions in funding to make it easier for departments to purchase the technology.

Newburgh city officials say they also support the idea of officers wearing body cameras, but it's not clear how soon they may be purchased.
