A dog who went missing over the weekend is now home safe thanks to firefighters in the City of Newburgh.
Rescuers say the pup named Lilly got trapped on the frozen shoreline of the Hudson River Friday afternoon after it got away from its owners to chase a flock of ducks.
Firefighters found the dog trapped 10 feet out on the ice and had to get in the water themselves to safely get to her.
"She wouldn't leave the ice pad and risk getting wet again so that's why we had to send the firemen in the water,” said Timothy Dexter, the assistant fire chief of the Newburgh Fire Department.
Lilly was not injured and is back home with her family.
