A Newburgh babysitter serving jailtime for assaulting a toddler in an incident caught on a nanny cam may be deported.
Orange County Jail officials say Chantal Mason will be transferred into federal custody for a deportation hearing at the end of her nine-month sentence instead of being released.
A source says she’s from Trinidad.
Mason pleaded guilty to reckless assault and has been in jail since April. She was recorded repeatedly slapping and shoving a 2-year-old boy on a couch last year while trying to get him to go to sleep.
News 12 reached out to U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement for more information but hasn’t heard back.
