Minimum wage will remain at $17 an hour in New York due to a condition in state law.
That law passed three years ago calls for the minimum wage to increase by one dollar each year.
However, there is an exception. If the state’s unemployment rate reaches a specific threshold, the increase is put on hold.
That is what is happening this year, according to state officials.
The change does not impact home care aids, whose minimum wage will rise to $20 per hour in New York City and Westchester County.
