State officials are warning of a growing problem across New York: Traffic signal failures. When the power goes out, traffic lights do too. If you encounter a dark traffic light while driving, proceed with caution and treat it as a stop sign.
When approaching a dark traffic light, slow down and yield to traffic on the right. New York State Police and the Department of Transportation (DOT) are reminding drivers to exercise caution during storms and their aftermath.
If you come across an intersection with a dark traffic light, you can report the issue to the DOT's Transportation Management Center. They will notify the appropriate staff to respond and work to restore the signal.
