3ds agoThe New York Republican party backed Mike Sapraicone as its preferred nominee during its convention in Binghamton on Thursday.
The retired New York police detective and Long Island resident received more support than Westchester businessman and former congressional candidate Josh Eisen.
Eisen previously ran for a seat in New York's 17th Congressional District in 2017 to replace the retiring Nita Lowey.
Sapraicone previously announced his intention to run for New York's 3rd Congressional District seat against then-Rep. George Santos. Santos was ultimately expelled from Congress at the end of 2023.
Sapraicone's platform centers around public safety, border security and affordability.
Last week, the New York Democratic Committee backed incumbent Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand for reelection.
In a post on social media, she said she was "proud to lead the ticket in one of the most consequential elections in history."
