New York City is celebrating 'Dad Take Your Child to School' Day, a campaign first introduced in 2007.
Dozens of fathers and father figures across 70 New York City schools had a chance to participate and walk their children to school Thursday.
Kids and their fathers and father figures at the Brooklyn Scholars Charter School were treated to a breakfast and had the chance to hear from guest speakers.
"I love walking my son to school, I walk my son to school every day and we have a great day, we have a lovely time, and it's just wonderful that this is in my community," said Nathaniel Childs, a father of one of the students.
The event was put on by the city's Department of Youth and Community Development.
"It's a joy just seeing the faces, the smiles, the jubilation that comes with the comradery they've built with their classmates," said Keith Howard, the Commissioner of the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development.
This day is recognized all across the country.
