Yankee Stadium plans were pushed forward Wednesday after the Empire State Development Corporation approved general project plans.The chairman of the Empire State Development Corporation said the stadium would bring good things to the Bronx and the city. A strong contingent, however, opposes the plan saying the environment will lose out with diminishing parkland and air pollution caused by construction and game day traffic. As part of the deal, the Yankees signed a non-relocation agreement, which means they will play all their 81 home games at the new stadium and can't relocate for another 40 years. Since funding for the stadium's parking comes from both the city and state, an approval process needs to be held on both levels. The state will hold a public hearing on the issue within the next month. Related article:
