The four Orange County men who were arrested Wednesday night and charged in a terrorist plot to bomb two Jewish religious sites and shoot down military planes apparently met regularly for lunch at a Newburgh diner.
Danny Deleon, the owner of Danny's Place Restaurant in Newburgh, says he frequently saw James Cromitie, the suspected leader of the terrorist ring, in the company of David Williams, Onta Williams and Laguerre Payen. The four men were allegedly involved in the plot that was uncovered by police and the FBI.
"He's a regular customer, nice guy, normal guy, and I never imagined he'd do a thing like that," Deleon says, referring to Cromitie.
Cromitie and his alleged accomplices are accused of attempting to bomb the Riverdale Jewish Center and the Riverdale Temple in the Bronx. Investigators also say the men wanted to attack military aircraft at Stewart Airport near Newburgh.
On Friday, Christian, Muslim and Jewish leaders came together at the Riverdale Jewish Center to hold an interfaith service and take a stand against terrorism.
"Today's gathering sends a message that religious, racial, and ethnic bigotry cannot be tolerated," says Ari Hoffnung, of the Jewish Community Council.
The four suspects in the terrorist plot are being held without bail at the Westchester County Jail in Valhalla.
