As parents and students lose hope of having their school stay put, another site is emerging as the potential new home of Good Counsel Academy High School in White Plains.
The former Blessed Sacrament Elementary School in New Rochelle appears to be the front-runner for the relocation of Good Counsel Academy H.S., which has been at its current location on North Broadway in White Plains since the 1800s. The Sisters of the Divine Compassion wants to sell its 16-acre property that currently houses Good Counsel Academy and has notified the school's board of trustees that the school must vacate the property by .
A spokesman for the Sisters of the Divine Compassion says the sale of the White Plains property isn't an easy decision. "The nuns of this order are aging," says spokesman Geoff Thompson. "There are many who are in need of significant health care. There has to be a plan for the future."
Open bidding for the White Plains property will continue for another eight to 10 weeks.
