A Westchester County grand jury has cleared a New Rochelle police officer of misconduct allegations.
Lt. Sean Kane was accused of deliberately mishandling evidence during a drug investigation that led to an arrest. Charges against him were dismissed.
Westchester District Attorney Miriam Rocah says evidence was presented to a grand jury which decided Thursday not to indict him. She says the office respects the process and thanks the grand jury for their service on this matter.
A city spokeswoman says an internal investigation will resume and Kane remains suspended with pay.
The president of the New Rochelle NAACP said there was clear and undeniable video evidence of the officer engaging in evidence tampering.
