A New Rochelle nonprofit just hit the road with a new food truck that is designed to keep people fed and healthy.

Leaders from The Lincoln Park Conservancy said their new food truck brings fresh and free produce directly to the people.

"We harvest local vegetables at one of our three farms that we cultivate, and we load up and take the produce to our in-user clients," said the nonprofit's president of the board of directors Stuart Reid.

Reid's wife, Linda Tarrant-Reid, leads the nonprofit and said the truck is an expansion of their grow! Eat initiative that began during the pandemic.

"The food supply and food chain was interrupted, so watching that really saddened me," Tarrant-Reid said.

Now, thanks to funding from State Sen. Nathalia Fernandez, their mission is mobile and can reach even more people.

"Seniors, low- income families, churches, food pantries, basically anybody that needs it," Tarrant-Reid said.

Residents, like Juan Ceballos, said the mission is a move in the right direction.

"I think it's great, especially, nowadays, when prices are high and stuff," Ceballos said.

Reid said a couple of their pop-ups are happening this week.

"It's been such a blessing having our own truck, because in previous years we had borrowed trucks or are using our own personal vehicle to deliver the produce," Reid said.
