A New Rochelle nonprofit is getting a new building to help in its mission to feed the community.
News 12 got a tour Thursday.
Hope Community Services feeds about 1,500 families every year through its pantry and offers so many other services, including immigration help and programming for children.
Hope's staff related to their clients on a new level last year when they learned they had to leave their longtime home.
Now, they've been gifted Calabria Mutual Aid Society's building.
"Having a permanent home, we don't have to move. We don't have to ask someone if we can use the space," executive director Sylvia Hamer said.
They will be able to design to their needs. Plans include a restaurant-style dining room, a grocery style pantry, showers for the homeless and a lactation room.
"This is going to be really good for all involved," Hamer said.
It will take $6 million over the next two years to renovate the building. They hope to break ground in December or January.
