An 150-foot-wide mural of Coney Island was unveiled Thursday, displaying images of Coney Island landmarks like the Cyclone and Wonder Wheel.
The mural is located at the corner of Stillwell and Mermaid avenues and was funded by the Alliance for Coney Island. The mural was hand-painted on the back of Gargiulio’s Restaurant and is set to serve as a warm welcome to the passengers at the Stillwell Avenue subway station.
Danielle Mastrion, the creator of the mural, told News 12 it took her and her team just over two months to take the design idea for the mural and turn it into a reality.
This is just one of 25 murals funded by the Alliance for Coney Island around the neighborhood, and Mastrion hopes this one goes beyond looking pretty and helps improve business and tourism in the Coney Island neighborhood.
