The Village of Ossining is one step closer to adding parking in its downtown area.

The project, known as the Aqueduct Hub, will include hundreds of parking spaces along with electric vehicle charging stations for cars and e-bikes. Plans also call for green space and seating areas.

Mayor Rika Levin said expanding parking options is key to the village's long-term growth.

"We're trying to attract more businesses, more retail and frankly provide more housing," said Levin. "This allows for overnight parking for people living in the downtown area who need some space."

Residents say the project could remove a major barrier for visitors coming into the village.

"If you drive up and hear about what's going on, and there's a parking problem, that's a deterrent," said Ossining resident Erwin Ridgway. "So, right now, it's definitely a positive."

Over the next 10 to 12 weeks, there will be large trucks coming through to drop off pieces for the project, which could lead to brief road closures on and around Main Street.

This will be taking place Monday through Friday during the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Village officials say the Ossining Police Department will be working to keep traffic moving, but drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the area.

More information on the project can be found here.
