New legislation may give Westchester drivers a break on tolls

New legislation announced Sunday may give holiday drivers in Westchester a little relief. State Senator Jeff Klein (D-WC/BX) wants to do away with tolls on all tunnels and bridges in and around New York City on major holiday weekends like Memorial Day. He says the $533 million budget surplus at the MTA would make that possible. At the Queens Midtown Tunnel, drivers pay almost $5, not including the cost spent on gas used while the car sits in traffic. Local commuters say they endorse the plan. They say it will be faster because they won?t have to stop to pay the toll. They also say the proposal will help cut down on gas costs.
