A new Courtyard by Marriott hotel broke ground Thursday in Yonkers.
The 150-room hotel is being built on Executive Boulevard, right next to a Residence Inn by Marriott that is just a few years old.
Officials say that developers are taking advantage of borrowing cheap money and building all they can to inject the city with an economic and development boom.
City Planning Commissioner Wilson Kimball says the building business has never been been better.
"We think this is the most active period the city has seen for development - over a billion dollars," she says.
When the Courtyard opens next year, it will be the third new hotel in the city. Plans are in the works to construct a fourth at the Ridge Hill Mall.
