Putnam County is set to establish a state-of-the-art fire training center, aimed at enhancing the training and capabilities of its firefighters.
County Executive Kevin Byrne, in collaboration with the Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services, unveiled plans for a $2 million investment in the creation of the advanced Fire Training Center.
The new facility will replace the former center, including the tower that has not been utilized for over a decade due to its poor safety conditions.
It will also mean local fire departments won't have to travel to neighboring counties for essential training.
Funding for the project will primarily come from the American Rescue Plan act.
Officials hope the center can be completed next summer.
