Travelers without a Real ID or a passport could face added costs at the airport as a new identity verification fee takes effect.
Starting Feb. 1, airline passengers who do not have a Real ID or a passport will be required to pay a $45 fee for identity verification.
The fee must be paid before passengers reach the TSA security checkpoint.
Officials say the payment will cover a 10‑day travel period.
Travelers who plan to fly again within that time frame are advised to keep their receipt and present it on subsequent trips.
