New information is emerging about the nearly seven-hour outage that disrupted service at a Bronx 911 call center last month, affecting hundreds of callers and leaving some unable to reach emergency dispatchers.

The outage occurred at the center on Marconi Street and began at 3:13 a.m. on Aug. 18. Service was not fully restored until 10:19 a.m., according to city officials.

As News 12 previously reported, callers and dispatchers were unable to hear one another on nearly 1,700 calls during the disruption.

Officials said some of those calls were duplicate reports or automatically generated alarm system notifications.

During a public hearing Tuesday, city public safety leaders revealed that 319 people were directly impacted by the outage. More than 100 callers never successfully connected with a 911 operator.

Leaders said the failure was caused by a technology upgrade that inadvertently disrupted the system. The issue went undetected for several hours before it was identified and resolved.

The NYPD said officers and dispatchers later called back several hundred people whose calls had been dropped during the outage.

However, officials have not yet provided details on what happened to the remaining missed calls or whether all affected callers were ultimately contacted.

An investigation into the outage and the city's emergency response systems remains ongoing.
