A Nanuet organization held a ribbon cutting for its brand new habilitation center in Nanuet on Thursday.
The 8,000-square-foot facility will house the new day habilitation program, called Without Walls.
It provides people with disabilities the opportunity to connect with one another, enhance skills and achieve life goals.
The organization serves about 150 people in Rockland County alone, but provides services throughout the Hudson Valley and New York City.
"Ten years ago, we started residential services here and our folks weren't able to find day habilitation programs in the community based on their challenging needs. So, we created a day habilitation without walls,” says senior vice president Jill Gentile, of Developmental Disability Division, The New York Foundling. “We were in basements of our group homes and now we have a place, like I said, people can come in the beginning of the day, the middle of the day and the end of the day and just have a lot of activities in enriching their lives.”
Families in search of a day habilitation program for their loved one are encouraged to reach out to the organization.
